When I first got the idea for this Robert Service
poetry CD project, I was inspired by Elvis
Presley who stopped in at Sun Studios in Memphis
to record a song for his mother. The rest was
history as we know. I wanted to do the same
thing for my mother, who used to read to my
brother and me from her well-thumbed copy of "Spell of the Yukon".
My father bought that book for her while in
the Air Force in Alaska in 1954 (just missing
being a mash doctor in Korea by one year).
On this, the one hundred year anniversary of
Robert Service being assigned by the Canadian
Bank of Commerce to Whitehorse, and then to
Dawson Creek, I would like to express my eternal
gratitude to those individuals who were instrumental
in getting this project up and running: Ronnie
Guilbeau for his recording expertise and his
patience in working with me, Cowboy Jack Clement
for his most helpful and needed advice, the
Robert Service estate for their blessing, and
last but no least, my parents Dr. and Mrs.
Joe Cromeans for their love and support.
